The Gloved Kiss

For a very long time, Cheshire — the current Dark Joker of Cards — accepted the fact that his love would never be returned. For years, he acted as an invisible guard to Princess Lamprocapnos, unknown to her. In this artwork, I want to illustrate the brief time when Lam, the Princess of Hearts, still doesn’t know Cheshire. She looks upon him kindly, with an interest she herself doesn’t full understand. Whereas he holds himself with a grace he has learned over the years he’s spent in her kingdom.

I used several different references for this artwork to capture the time period, styling, and connection between my two main characters. The illustration was done digitally and took a little under five hours to complete.

“And what about your heart?”

“Oh, you won that a long time ago.”

Hearts & Stones Part I, Chapter 23

Wonderland & Underland

In love there is often Tragedy.

All of Hearts & Stones is an exploration of how far one will go for love. War, strife, blood, and the sinking realization of how immortality is a double sided coin. No matter how important they are to the battles to come, Lam & Cheshire struggle with putting each other over everything, including their own lives.
